Five Ways to Revamp Your Business Casual Wardrobe

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at South Carolina chapter.

Don’t wear what your mother wore to her interview over a decade ago (and would probably still wear today). I repeat, no more nude heels and chunky blazers. Workwear, or the word everyone is terrified of: business casual, has slowly been revolutionized, bringing us to this glorious time of free expression and confidence at the office. As long as you avoid denim and aren’t bearing your whole chest, let’s have some fun!

1. Color, Color, COLOR.

A pop of color makes the world go round AND turns heads in your direction. Stray away from everyday black, white, and neutral. Trust us, you’ll even feel better… and you’ll try anything to get you through that nine to five, right?

2. Statement Jewelry

A large necklace, layered pendants, and chunky bracelets can take worn out styles that you already have in your closet and transform them into fresh fashion. Literally, from drab to fab.

3. Fabric

Play with your clothes and don’t be afraid to pair leather and lace! These leather leggings can be workwear ready-to-go when matched with booties and a soft sweater.

4. Accessorize

The belt took this dress to another level of “we LOVE that.” The bag and sunglasses don’t hurt either. You can take the dresses stuffed in the dark corners of your closet and give them new life by adding simple pieces like belts, scarves, and hats.

5. Invest

Where can we buy 100 of these cardigans like yesterday? A tired duo of black and white was revamped from an oversized staple… can I get a hell yeah? If you own black pants and neutral tops (who doesn’t), you’ll easily have weeks worth of outfits by investing in diversified pieces like cardigans.

Bonus Tip: It’s not necessary, well in our world it is, but purchasing a killer coat can take your look from “eh” to “that girl is goals.”
