Your Go-To Guide to Surviving Mixer Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SMU chapter.

While mixer season can be one of the most fun times of year, multi-day streaks of partying and socializing can be draining to say the least. In order to make the most of it, follow these steps to survive.

Remember the purpose of mixers is to meet people and make connections.

Mixer season is designed to give you the opportunity to meet boys from other fraternities. Even though you may feel tired later in the week, it’s important to make connections with new people and to portray your sorority in the best light possible.

Don’t be afraid to stay in if you need to.

All that being said, if you absolutely must stay in, be it for studying or because you’re sick or for some other important reason, it’s okay to miss a mixer or two. Remember the reason we are in college is to get an education, despite how all-consuming greek life can seem. Put yourself and your needs first and know that it’s alright to stay in every once in a while.

Keep an open mind about all of the fraternities.

Despite any rumors you might’ve heard about specific fraternities, keep an open mind about all boys you mix with. Every fraternity has fun, cool guys and you won’t know how great they are if you come in with a closed mind or don’t show up at all!

Make sure to eat before you go out.

To make sure you survive the night, you must eat something before you go out. I really cannot stress this enough. Even though you might not feel as good in your crop top, you will feel even worse when you can’t make it to the venue!

Invest in some electrolyte pills.

The morning after a particularly a rough night, your body is probably running low on electrolytes. One strategy to banish your hangover is to invest in some electrolyte pills. These pills are typically designed for endurance athletes but they come in handy for college students as well.

Consider buying a few extra pins.

If you are going to mixers before Big/Little week (when you will likely be gifted a ton of pins) think about buying a few extra pins so you don’t have to wear the same one or two to every mixer. That way, you will have more options to choose from when trying to make your pin match your outfit.
