On February 16, Drake uploaded his music video for his new song, “God’s Plan”. The six-minute video already has over 50 million views since being posted just over a week ago. In his video, Drake goes to various places in Miami, Florida giving back to all types of different people, such as high schools, universities, families and people on the streets. Rather than spending his $1 million budget creating a typical music video for his new song, Drake gave all the money away. The goal of this music video was to highlight one of the most important aspects of life: giving back. Whether it’s donating new uniforms to public schools or handing out cash on the streets, Drake made people happy, which has been a limited emotion in our recent news, especially in Florida. If you haven’t watched this video yet, I strongly encourage you to do so. It will bring tears to your eyes in no time.

In context of recent events, this music video is a light amidst the darkness that clouds the U.S. right now. The fact of the matter is that people all over the country are struggling, and actual, legitimate change needs to be done about it. Hopefully, what Drake did with his music video will be just the start of a chain reaction. More musicians, and celebrities in general, will direct the attention from their media platforms to important matters existing in this country and beyond.

The video for “God’s Plan” also acts as evidence for other musicians that blowing millions of dollars to produce music videos is not necessary to gain views and exposure for songs. In only a week and a half, “God’s Plan” on YouTube already has over 50 million views worldwide. With this being said, musicians should prioritize the money in their allotted budgets by possibly donating it to give back and do good for communities in need.

While most rappers, and celebrities in general, aren’t necessarily known to be the greatest role models, Drake is actively working to break that stereotype through charitable acts such as this video. To all the lives that he touched in the making of this project and to all the kids watching this video at home, Drake will be known as an encouragement to work hard, stay humble and give back.

Also, can we talk about how good this song actually is… a bop for sure. For all of these reasons, I hope you give this video a watch, and let it inspire you to do an act of kindness yourself.
