Style File: It’s Her Campus, and She Rocks It. Rain or Shine, Sneakers or Heels.

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SMU chapter.

Whenever my mom comes to visit, we go on a shopping spree. Generally speaking, I go to the mall intending to round out my “class wardrobe” but almost always leave with more items, especially shoes, that I’d rather wear to Sfuzzi on a Friday night. (R.I.P. Greenville)

The following week, my style will likely follow this pattern:

Monday: New cute dress from Urban
Tuesday: Old dress from can’t remember- probably from high school
Wednesday: Skirt/Shorts that I just rediscovered from Forever21 with a plain shirt
Thursday: Gym shorts and a t-shirt… Or my Lulus if I’m feeling sassy!
Thursday night: New heels and a fresh dress from Cusp
Friday: I feel like Ron Burgondy when he discovered “milk was a bad choice.” Gym shorts without at doubt! Remind me again why I ever got cute for class?
This is the Math they should teach in college: (Wine at Dinner) + (Shots the Cute Guy Bought) + (Mixed             Drinks Always in Hand) = A headache that makes you feel you can relate to campus after the Death Penalty.

However, the next week, I’ll likely neglect the clothes I love and pair jeans or gym shorts with lots of t-shirts.

In a world of hashtags, (un)tagged pictures, and thank god no more CollegeACB, we feel pressured to be as poised and royal as Kate Middleton. But the truth is that most of us will never be in that limelight. (Unless Harry is looking for an American. In that case…dibs!) But having style is so much more than being poised and royal. Style is taking your world and giving it shape. Some days, it might take the shape of the Derelict collection from Zoolander, inspired by the bums of Crooklyn. Other days it might take the petite shape of Anna Wintour with her signature Manolos. But no matter what day, it is your right to shape according to how you feel.

So here’s to the girl who sometimes accepts gym clothes and less-than-glamorous looks as her style. It’s the style of hard worker that wants more than just her “M-R-S degree”, or even the style of a girl who actually intends to go to the gym that day.  It’s her campus, and she rocks it: rain or shine, sneakers or heels. She has brains. She has beauty. She has class. And she goes to SMU.

Caroline Wright, a double major in Business Marketing and Communication Studies at Southern Methodist University, is thrilled to be part of the Her Campus Team. She has been employed by a variety of companies including Kate Spade New York, NBC Universal Pictures, Brynn Bagot Public Relations, Rent the Runway, and Nordstrom. Caroline is currently Social Chair for her sorority Kappa Alpha Theta as well as serves on the Board of SMU's Student Foundation.
