Our Personal Picks to Get You Through Flu Season

With flu season in full swing, it’s time to start taking more precautions, aside from getting your flu shot. Make sure to wash your hands before eating or touching your face, stay hydrated by drinking water, add some extra vitamins to your immune system with Emergen-C, Zicam, or Airborne tablets, and avoid sharing food and drinks with others. For those of us unfortunate enough to have already caught the flu, stock up on these Her Campus favorites to crush your cold, before the semester starts to pick up.

Throat Coat Tea: This has a low dose of medicine that numbs your throat for those days when the coughing gets you down. This can be found at Target.

Tissues with Aloe Lotion: When your constantly stuffed up and having to blow your nose, these will prevent redness and keep your nose from getting painfully dry. Find them at any local drugstore.

Cough Drops: These are a must in order to prevent others giving you the stare down in class for coughing too much. Personal favorites include Ricolla Lemon Mint Cough Drops, and Cepacol Sore Throat & Cough Relief Lozenges.

Vicks VapoRub: When you find it impossible to sleep at night with a stuffy nose, apply this to your chest and instantly sleep better. It opens up your stuffy nose, due to its strong scent.

LUSH Sugar Scrub: When your lips get chapped from breathing through your mouth instead of your nose, rub this sugar scrub across your mouth, and instantly have smooth lips. The sugar gently removes dead skin and according to LUSH, this product is edible! Find this in various flavors of Mint Julips, Popcorn, Bubblegum, and The Kiss.

Sudafed: For those of you who hate swallowing pills, this is a tiny tablet that’s easy to swallow with a sore throat. Taken every 4 hours, this will dry up your sinuses and get you out of bed much faster.

Advil: A classic medicine for any type of swelling or pain. Taking these before bed will help yur body rest and heal faster.

Ginger Kombucha: This drink has loads of ginger which will help fight off sickness, and the Kombucha has live cultures which help with digestion and may ease any stomach pains caused by the flu. Find these in local grocery stores.
