Meet Schuyler Mack, Miss SMUstyle!

Where did the inspiration behind SMUstyle come from?

Unfortunately, I cannot take the credit for the start of SMUstyle. It has been around for about 6 years, although for the last 4 of them the blog was pretty much off the radar. I saw the potential and already built in an audience of SMU students, alumni, and Dallas reader base. After taking it over in the beginning of last year, the blog has had an 80% viewer increase. The SMUstyle team is made up of 10 girls/boy of all ages and Greek affiliation. Everyone has a specialty they write about. SMUstyle would not be anything without the team. It is very rewarding and a great way for me to channel my love of fashion.

What do you do for SMUstyle?

A typical day consists of me either emailing or talking on the phone with retailers, connecting business relationships. I set up photo shoots with different boutiques, restaurants, and individual retailers. I manage Facebook Ads and handle Instagram, as well as oversee the photo shoots and come up with new content to post on a weekly basis.

How would you describe your style? Does your style reflect your personality?

My style is always changing. I like to keep up with current season trends and incorporate them into my looks. I can’t say that I have a consistent timeless look. My go-to look I have been wearing forever is an abbreviated schoolgirl style. Knee socks and mini skirts are a staple in my wardrobe. Also, you can never go wrong with leather pants!

What is your favorite store to shop at in Dallas and why?

My favorite shop in Dallas is Elements Boutique on Lovers Lane. Their buyer is amazing and goes to all the Fashion week shows, always on trend! They buy for a girl with style ranging from J-Brand to Rick Owens.

Do you have any recommendations to girls who want to dress cute while on a budget? (Brands, stores, etc.)

There are so many options for fashionistas on a budget thanks to places such as Zara, Top-Shop and Aso. Also, always keep your eye out for a designer collaboration with brands like H&M or Target. The latest one, Alexander Wang X, at H&M has been a huge hit.

Who is your fashion icon?

My fashion icon is the Vogue Japan editor Anna Dello Russo. She is so daring with her looks and takes so many fashion risks, it’s great!

Have you always been interested in fashion?

Yes, since some of my first memories as a child are dressing up in my moms wardrobe. While all my friends went to outdoor camps, I went to fashion camp and took classes at F.I.T. I’ve been studying designers since I could read.
