Catching the feels’ for fall: 5 ways to ready your dorm for the season’s festivities

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SMU chapter.

Here in Dallas, there may not be a crisp coolness in the air, but when the day’s high no longer exceeds 95 degrees, break out the boots and sweaters because fall is rolling in. What’s better than a change in season– especially one with so many festivities? Here are five ways to make your dorm feel fabulously fall-ish!

1. Door Wreaths

Nothing says “welcome” like a door wreath, except maybe a “welcome” doormat. Wreaths are fun, decorative and easy. They can be made easily and for fairly cheap. Or, you can buy them from almost any local crafting store. Try an orange, brown and red one. Add little pumpkins and/or ghosts to it for Halloween and for Thanksgiving replace the ghosts with pilgrim hats!

2. Cobb Webs

Cobb webs are a classic; you can’t go wrong. To avoid getting caught in them, try placing them over the corners of your bed or up in the corner of your room.  They’re easy to put up and to take down. The spider webs are a wicked touch to any dorm room.

3. Jack O’Laterns

Electric Jack O’Laterns are cute, festive, and they pass the fire safety checks! They also make perfect night lighting with their soft glow. They can be purchased almost anywhere from Walgreens to Target.

4. Fall Garland

Easily purchased at Michaels or Hobby Lobby fall garland can be hung from light to light or strung out behind your desk. It pulls the warm autumn colors in and brings a home-y feeling to your dorm.

5. Potpourri

Not only does potpourri make for an awesome centerpiece, it also fills your dorm room with delicious seasonal smells. Walk in and feel the fall when you see the brown acorns and orange leaves that fill the room with the smell of pumpkin spice and cinnamon.
