4 Ways to Survive Finals Week

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SMU chapter.

Everyone knows that finals week is one of the most stressful times of the semester for a college student, but it doesn’t have to be as bad as we make it out to be. Although it may not be an enjoyable experience, here are some things you can do to make the week slightly less terrible.

1. Study for small amounts of time

Cramming the night before a test is never a good idea. Instead, start studying early on so you only have to study for short periods of time. This will increase productivity and will ensure you are actually absorbing the information you are studying

2. Take Breaks

Taking breaks gives your mind a rest from intense studying and allows your body to get the rest it needs. Whether you like to unwind by watching an episode of your favorite show or by listening to some Christmas music, make sure you give yourself time to relax and have some “me” time or you’ll drive yourself crazy. Just make sure you don’t lose track of time and have your 20-30 minute episode break turn into 3 hour long studying stint.

3. Get a good night’s sleep leading up to the test day

Seriously, do it. Making sure you’re well rested keeps your mind alert during the test and will ensure that you perform at your best level.

4. Eat healthy

Eating healthy, as cliché as it may sound, is one of the best things you can do for your body before a big exam. Having a big and healthy breakfast before an exam will keep you full and focused.

Now go forth and get that A! Good Luck on your finals!
