Right Off the Runway: Spring Trends from Milan Fashion Week

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SMCVT chapter.

1.    Color: Khaki

Yes that’s right, khaki is here to stay. Forget white, use khaki as your neutral this spring. We were definitely feeling some serious military girl vibes from the runways of fashion week.

2.    Silly Sleeves

Trying to find the right statement piece? Don’t weigh down your arms with heavy bracelets. This spring try a statement sleeve. Tell your moms, the 80s are back and so are their sleeves. Although we totally support your shoulder pads, if you’re looking for a more subdued look, try and off the shoulder top or a cold shoulder top.

3.    The blazer comeback

FINALLY! Amidst all of this chaos a timeless classic is back and better than ever. A blazer is the perfect summer jacket this year. With a sophisticated and chic tone, they’re totally able to be worn with jeans during the day and a slinky dress at night. Make this a staple in your wardrobe for spring and beyond.

4.    Color: Pink

Blush, fuchsia, magenta, and bubblegum pink were all splattered across the runways. Designers used all shades of pink to celebrate Spring 2017.

5.    Graphic Prints

Whether you’re more floral or geometric, graphic prints are in again. There were many floral prints, a typical part of spring collections, but designers also paid homage to African and East Asian cultures by using traditional prints.

6.    The White Shirt Dress

Once again let this become a staple in your wardrobe. The white shirt dress is just like that favorite nude bra, it can be worn everywhere, at anytime, ever. Dress it down at the beach with some sandals or take it with you into the office with a chic belt and blazer combo.

7.    Swimwear meets Street wear

This trend probably correlates with the bodysuit and one piece swimsuit trends. Don’t worry about investing in a cover up this year. Try to make your swimsuits a part of your wardrobe.

8.    Sheer

Although designers aren’t screaming “FREE ALL THE NIPPLES” yet, we’re getting pretty close. Sheer tops have already become a popular college party look, but start looking at ways you can incorporate sheerness into your daytime looks too.

9.    Banker stripes

Let’s start calling banker stripes the summer flannel. This subtle print will leave you glowing and is perfect for the office or on a lunch date. You can really experiment with this textile.
