An Open Letter to my Sophomore Year Roommate

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SMCVT chapter.

Dear Roommate,

I know it’s only been a week but I already have so much to thank you for. After being best friends all last year, we finally get to live together. The year is already off to a great start and there’s nobody else I would rather come home to every night (even if home is a tiny dorm).

Thank you for being just as excited to decorate as I was. Countless hours have been spent scouring Pinterest for the best room ideas and honestly ours looks awesome. Also thanks for being just as extra as I am (yeah we have marble countertops for our desks). Even though some people would find it weird, I love sleeping feet to feet with you every night and watching Netflix head to head every day. Shoutout St. Mike’s for having lofts that only let you set your beds up one way!! There’s nobody else I would want to binge on a new series or rewatch The Office a million times with. And cuddling in bed doing Buzzfeed quizzes was just bound to happen. Our fridge always has an amazing selection of beers and wines, our snack bin is always full, and you never judge me for how much of either of those I consume. It’s a true blessing to be able to get ready every weekend night to go out with you, instead of lugging my clothes, makeup, and hair stuff across campus. An even bigger blessing is waking up on Sunday mornings (afternoons?) and never having to explain how I’m feeling, because you’re in the same boat.

On a more serious note, I couldn’t ask for a more supportive person to take on the sophomore slump with. No matter what happens with school or other people, I always feel comfortable coming back to our room and venting. You motivate me, push me, and keep me on track. I’m so thankful that we’re both comfortable enough to call each other out when we’re mad, instead of getting in passive aggressive fights. All of our weird rules and mottos for the year (nothing less than a 9.5) are a constant reminder that it’s going to be a great year.

So, to my roommate that is always down to try new things, blast music in the showers, watch Netflix, and go on crazy adventures, thank you for everything you do. And as we head into this year, thank you for everything I know you’ll end up doing for me, especially on those Saturday nights when all I need is a hand to hold walking home.

Love you just in case.

Oh and thanks for letting me walk around our room with no pants on 24/7.
