Make up is both a blessing and a curse. While most women today love to wear makeup, we have to recognize that we live in a very structured society where women feel like they must wear makeup in order to be considered ‘beautiful’. Personally, I am not one to wear makeup everyday. I believe it can be a waste of time and that our beauty is so much more than our looks. The best thing we can do as women is to be comfortable and confident in our own actual skin and not skin that has been covered a million times in creams, bronzer, or blush. We cover our beautiful unique selves in layers of fear that we will not fit in or will be considered ‘unappealing’ if we show our natural skin and beauty. I wonder what a different world it would be if women didn’t wear as much make up and felt happy showing their faces naturally.

Not only is make up expensive, but it is also not very good for our skin. Makeup is good for those days we wake up, look in the mirror and see a new pimple or just anything we feel the need to cover up. However it is this idea that we can just simply cover up our ‘flaws’ and not face them may not be the best solution. Instead we should realize all women, men, and any person has flaws they feel the need to hide, but we also have so much beauty to show. The best feeling, in my opinion, is going out in public without make up and just letting people know you are confident in your own skin and that you are who you are so you should embrace it and not try to change or cover up your true beauty. I am a person who does wear makeup occasionally because it is fun to get all dressed up, but makeup should be limited more so to special occasions. We should be able to go about our daily lives without feeling the pressure of conforming or changing ourselves just because society implies these ideas of what being beautiful means. My favorite thing about not wearing makeup is I can go to bed every night without worrying about washing all the layers of creams, foundations, and eye makeup off. It is just scary to think about how consumed people can become with trying to be ‘perfect’. As women we should be admiring one another, helping each other realize our true beauties, not bringing each other down when we do not uphold the same looks as everyone else. We are all beautiful women in our own ways and we should highlight these features for ourselves, but also notice them in others. Without makeup you might feel ‘naked’ to the outside world at first, but you also might feel free beyond our harsh society. We should embrace our natural beauty instead of covering it up, we are beautiful women.
