Meet this week’s Campus Cutie, Mariah Newman! What not many people may know about this fun loving and heavily involved freshman, is that she’s the 14th person in her family to go to Saint Mike’s! While she loves interacting with kids in different MOVE programs, she has a smile that can light up the room, and is a great friend.

Her Campus: What made you choose St. Mike’s?
Mariah Newman: I chose Saint Mike’s because of the feeling that I got when I stepped onto campus. I just got a really warm and friendly vibe. I loved the social scene. Also, my parents met at Saint Mike’s, so I’ve been hearing about it my whole life. I’m actually the 14th family member to go to Saint Mike’s!
HC: How are you involved in the Saint Michael’s community?
MN: I’m involved in the Little Brother Little Sister Program where I’m mentor to a 6-year-old named Jacob. I’m also involved in Best Buddies, which is where I work with adolescents with special needs. I’m a member of the Peace and Justice Club. I am a tour guide, and also excited to be an Orientation Leader next semester!
HC: What advice would you give to incoming freshmen?
MN: Be as friendly to everyone as you can be; You’ll never know who will turn out to be a really good friend. Do what you’re comfortable doing; don’t let anyone pressure you into doing anything you want to do. Make sure to stay true to you!
HC: What is your favorite thing to do in the Burlington / Winooski area?
MN: I love going by water front, looking at the mountains, and of course, going to Skinny Pancake!
HC: Where is your favorite spot on campus?
MN: I love hanging out on the green in front of library and academic buildings, especially on a sunny day. I like seeing the bustling of people.
HC: What’s your favorite Alliot meal?
MN: I like the pad thai, but oreo pudding is my favorite hands down!
HC: What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
MN: I like to go for runs, write poetry, and hang out with friends.
