8 Reasons Why Thanksgiving is the Best Holiday

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SMCVT chapter.

1. The Food

To start with the obvious, a holiday that is completely centered around food is tough to beat. Thanksgiving is a day centered around indulging in heavy comfort food straight out of your grandma’s oven. Everyone has a favorite thanksgiving classic but the combo of it all together is what makes it truly magical. You can’t trust people who don’t like Thanksgiving dinner.

2. The Smell

If you’re the one hosting Thanksgiving, all day your house has the incredible aroma of everything baking in the oven–and it is heavenly.

3. Going Home

Columbus day was a while ago and as fun as being at college is, it is about time to lay on my couch and shower with no shoes on.

4. Seeing Your Entire Family

Not only do you get to go home and see your parents, siblings and dog, but you get to see the whole gang. Nothing like reuniting with your giant, insane family for a full day of eating, drinking, catching up and ending the night with a dance party.

5. Seeing Your Friends

You get to go home to escape your dorm and be in the comfort of your own home, you get to see your family, AND you get to reunite with all your friends. A lot of people have not seen their hometown friends since leaving for school in the summer. It has been three months too long without them and distance truly has made the heart grow fonder.

6. The Macy’s Parade

Maybe I’m a 50 year old woman for thinking this but I love the Macy’s day parade. You could not pay me to actually go because I don’t see why anyone would want to stand out in the cold when you could watch it while baking a pie with your mum, but watching it kicks off the day of festivities. Also the parade kind of kicks off the Christmas season and even though I am in the minority not thinking Christmas is the best holiday, it is definitely a close second.

7. Black Friday

The day after Thanksgiving may be just as unreal as Thanksgiving itself. Nothing like waiting all year to wake up at the crack of dawn to fight through the mob to get 70% off Abercrombie jeans.

8. “What are you thankful for?”

At my family Thanksgiving, and I am sure at many others, we go around and say what we are thankful for. Some of them are really sentimental and some are really basic but need to be said and some are funny but still accurate. Its nice to take time to think about everything we have to be thankful for because it can sometimes be easy to forget.
