Happy October, everyone! The leaves are changing color, the air is crisper, Halloween plans are in full swing; fall is on its way. Check out the Her Campus October highlights.


Voter Registration

Thursday, Oct. 4, Tang Museum in the We the People exhibition, 2-7pm

  • Do not miss the chance to vote this November because of the registration deadline. This event is co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Saratoga County.

Schuler Farms Corn Maize, Hayrides & Pumpkin Picking
Now until Sunday, Oct. 28. 10am-10pm

  • Schuler Farms is a family run farm that features a corn maize, hayrides, pumpkin & apple picking, petting zoo, cider donuts, gemstone & fossil mining and much more. Get out there and release your inner kid.
  • Haunted Corn Maze every Friday & Saturday night starting Oct. 5. Hours: Thurs. 4-7pm, Fri. 4-10pm, Sat. 10am-10pm, and Sun. 11am-6pm.

Iron Chef Challenge at Saratoga’s Farmer’s Market
Saturday, Oc.t 6, 9:30-11:30am. Saratoga Farmer’s Market, High Rock Park

  • Watch Max London of Max London’s go head to head with John Ireland of Panza’s in the fifth annual Iron Chef Challenge. Free admission.

Fright Fest at Great Escape
Saturday, Oct. 6 to Sunday, Oct. 28, 12-9pm. General admission $42.99

  • Celebrate Halloween the entire month of October at Great Escape in Lake George (roughly an hour and twenty minutes from Saratoga). Daytime treats include the Trick or Treat Trail and Halloween activities for kids. At 4pm the ghouls and zombies come out and fright fest begins! Can you handle it?


Party with Members from The Real World St. Thomas

Saturday, Oct. 6, Vapor Night Club, doors open at 9pm

  • Dying to party like a Real World star? Here’s your chance to hang with Robb, Marie and Brandon from MTV’s Real World St. Thomas. Dance the night away with DVDJ Dread. $10 door charge, 21+. Dress to impress.

Sound Sculpting, Resonance and Everyday Materials
Thursday, Oct. 11, Tang Museum, 6-9:30pm

  • Hands-on workshop with artist Doug Van Nort inspired by the sound sculpture Constellate, the latest installation in the Tang’s Elevator Music series. Limited space. Call the Tang to reserve a spot.

Third Annual Oktobeerfest
Saturday, Oct. 13, 1-7pm, Malta Drive-In Theater in Malta, NY

  • Celebrate German culture featuring authentic German bier and cuisine as well as seasonal craft beers from many local breweries. German and American food will be provided, as well as wine and non-alcoholic beverages. Live music throughout the afternoon, contests, games and more.
  • $10 day-of tickets. Drink tickets can be purchased on site. 

Senate Debate with Kirsten Gillibrand and Republican Challenger Wendy Long
Wednesday, Oct. 17, 7pm, Zankel Music Center

  • See Senator Kirsten Gillibrand debate Republican Wendy Long in our very own Zankel! The debate is sponsored by YNN and NY1 and the hour-long event will be monitored by Tonight host Liz Benjamin and NY1 political anchor, Errol Louis. Tickets will be made available to the Skidmore Community Oct. 3 and to the general public Oct. 10. Contact Zankel box office for more information. 

Celebration Weekend
Friday, Oct. 19 to Sunday, Oct. 21, Skidmore College

Riggi Family Halloween Spectacular

Afternoon of Oct. 31, Palazzo Riggi.

  • Anyone familiar with the eclectic Palazzo Riggi on Broadway will know of their famous Halloween extravaganza featuring ponies, hot cider and doughnuts, with dame of the household, Michele Riggi dressed as Cinderella giving out Wonka Bars (a select few of which contain money). Also, be sure to guess the weight of the giant pumpkin outside to be entered to win a family subscription to the YMCA (or other excellent prizes). Costume attired preferred!

 

Emma Weinstein is a senior at Skidmore College majoring in Art History. She loves being a part of Her Campus Skidmore and has written articles throughout her four years. Emma is an avid equestrian and member of the Riding Team. Other hobbies include travel, cooking, and personal fitness.
Audrey is a class of 2013 English major at Skidmore College. She has held several communications internships in her hometown of Nashville, TN, including ones at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, the Tennessee Center for Policy Research, Nissan's North American Headquarters, and at Katcher Vaughn and Bailey Public Relations. In her free time, she loves to bake for family and friends, exercise by swimming, and loves all things Parisian. Audrey can't wait to continue her journalism experience with Her Campus as a campus correspondent. Having lived in Nashville, France and New York, Audrey has found a love for travel, and hopes to discover a new city after Skidmore where she plans to continue onto law school.
