Survival Kit Essential: Planner

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Skidmore chapter.

I am not usually someone who uses a planner. I’ll get one at the beginning of the school year and use it for a few weeks, and then resort to setting reminders on my phone or writing things on my hand. I find planners to be incredibly helpful, but I can never get in the habit of writing in them continuously. I know people who use planners religiously and, as a result, are very organized and successful individuals, and I have always wanted to achieve that level of togetherness.

When we got our latest HC Survival Kit earlier this week, I was pleasantly surprised to find a stack of beautiful Erin Condren “On the Go Life Planners”. The front has a colorful floral design and it feels heavy and sturdy. I decided that this would be my motivation to finally get organized. Something about having something beautiful to write in makes it much easier to actually motivate to write. I have been using this planner for about a week now and have gotten many compliments on it.

At this point in the year, organization is incredibly important. Keeping track of classes and assignments can be the make or break for your classes as the semester draws to a close, and writing everything down is essential to success. You may think that your memory will be enough, but let me tell you, there’s always some detail that gets lost in the shuffle. The best way to survive finals and to avoid unnecessary stress is to write down assignments as soon as you are given them, and to plan out a schedule of working on them in pieces so you don’t end up doing them all at once. Having a planner can make all the difference, and I will definitely be using mine to manage my assignments in the last few weeks until Winter Break.
