First of all, if you have been reading my articles, and think all I do is watch television and movies at college, I promise I work too *cough* Mom and Dad *cough*. I am not a big romantic in the real world, but I am always good for a quality love story to watch on the big screen. Some of these movies are quality movies, others are fun, choose one depend on your mood. This Valentine’s Day, if you are not dating, grab your friends and watch one of these movies.

  1. Brokeback Mountain: This is my only serious movie, but I figured if you are in that mood, I would throw this one in. Two men fall in love while working on Brokeback Mountain at a time where people did not come out. Secret nights in the tent on the side of a mountain, what could be sexier?

  2. Dirty Dancing:  This one is also pretty serious, but not dark in the same way. Two people learn to dance with each other at a dance camp. “No one puts Baby in the corner.” Need I say more?

  3. 50 First Dates: This movie is my second most watched movie on the list. Adam Sandler’s character tries to make Drew Barrymore’s character fall in love. The only issue? Drew Barrymore’s memory gets wiped clean every night as she sleeps. Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler, you really can’t go wrong.

  4. She’s the Man: I was considering putting this one first, but decided against it based on quality, and fear of being judged. A modern telling of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, Viola Hastings (Amanda Bynes) dresses up as her brother to prove that girls can play soccer as the boys. She then falls in love with Channing Tatum’s character, who thinks she is a guy. This was my favorite movie as a child, it never gets old. “She’s got a little something something.”

  5. Love Actually: This is also a quality movie, to some extent. The movie follows multiple love stories, including between two kids, two women in a relationship with Patrick Dempsey (some things don’t change), and everything in between. My two favorite scenes are when the boy runs through the airport to find his girl, and the note card scene. Always a classic.

  6. 10 things I Hate About You: Based on Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew, Bianca wants to go out with Cameron, but her father will not let her date until her sister, Kat, does. The two of them find a way for Patrick to date Kat, so Bianca can date. It is a funny story with some serious moments, definitely worth the watch if you have not seen it yet.

  7. Silver Linings Playbook: You really can’t go wrong with a love story between Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper. It has some issues of family and mental illness, with plenty of funny parts infused in there.

  8. Valentine’s Day: A more recent, lesser quality version of Love Actually, it follows many love stories on Valentine’s Day. Patrick Dempsey’s character cheats on his wife (typical), and Taylor Lautner and Taylor Swift are stupid high schoolers dating each other. Again, not high quality, but a fun watch.

  9. What’s Your Number: A group of women read an article that if you sleep with more than 20 people, you will not find a partner for life. The main character has slept with 19 men. Determined not to go over 20, she revisits all of her ex-boyfriends to see if they would be viable. Although not a quality movie, it would be fun to watch it with friends on Valentine’s Day.

  10. John Tucker Must Die: I thought I should add in some movies that are just fun, so I can catch all different moods. Three high school girls find out they are simultaneously dating John Tucker. After he breaks up with them, they convince the new girl to date him and break his heart. It’s a fun revenge movie to watch with all your friends!

This is not an exhaustive list, but I tried to mix it up depending on the mood you’re in. Enjoy movie watching, and happy Valentine’s Day!
