Fall is arguably the best season for fashion. You finally get to start wearing pants again! And boots. Oh my God, boots. Not to mention—last but not least—jackets! Jackets are the easiest and cutest way to warm up any summery outfit for a perfect transition to fall. Check out Her Campus Skidmore’s five favorite fall jackets:

Fall Denim

Denim jackets are perfect for all times of year (excluding winter, maybe). Denim jackets can make any fancier outfit more casual, which is great for dressing down nice dresses. Another plus is that denim jackets are comfy and awesome for layering with cardigans! Also, if you’re feeling like going a little country for a day, add a pair of comfy boots and rock your inner TSwift. For an on-trend denim look, combine a denim jacket with a sweatshirt or leather sleeves for awesome, sporty, casual looks. Additionally, bigger styles and darker denim are perfect for when the weather cools off.

Cargo Jackets

First off, let’s just talk about the pockets. Cargo jackets have TONS of pockets, which means you can totally pull a Mary Poppins and randomly find candy bars or five-dollar bills or, you know, a lamp in your pocket on any given day. Another great thing about cargo jackets is their color – olive/military green looks good on everyone because it’s actually a neutral! Despite the fact that it is called green, it is more similar to khaki in the way it works with other colors. That means that you can wear it with anything – patterns, florals, the whole shebang.

Leather Combination Jackets

This is one of the best trends of fall 2013. We all love leather, but it’s not always great when it’s raining, or cold, or if you just feel like being comfortable. Leather combination jackets allow for you to be both trendy and cozy. Usually whatever the leather is paired with is something comfortable, but also neutral! These jackets, while easy to just throw on top of any outfit, also make you look instantly put-together.

Fall Vests

Recently, we’ve been seeing vests hit the shelves as early as summer! This summer, denim vests were all over the place; and while we love them a lot, we love fall vests even more! What is more preppy, collegiate, and ideal for fall than the perfect fall vest? The vests featured here range from casual denim, to leather, to combination vests. Here at Her Campus, we love them all. They’re great for those fall days where you just can’t figure out how warm (or cold) it’s going to be. Wear them with dresses, long-sleeved shirts, maxi skirts, anything! Vests are a must-have accessory for fashion-conscious collegiettes this fall.

Leather Jackets

I don’t even know if I have to explain the importance of leather jackets, but let’s just all understand that they are a STAPLE. You must, at some point in your life, acquire a leather jacket. Not only are they a true American staple (Come on: Danny Zuko, the Fonz, Agent 99… you get the idea), but they are also versatile, comfortable, and long-lasting. Here are some tips: go for pleather if you’re picking something that is only in trend for the season, but be sure to invest if you’re picking something timeless.
