With spring break coming up, a good way to kick school out of your mind for just a little bit (because now you’re allowed to) would be taking trips with the people that matter to you. It could be a planned road trip to somewhere a little further, or it could be a short drive to a place that you know you would have a great time at. Location doesn’t really matter, the company does – and for me, so does the music.

When I think of spring break trips, I think of these jams from some of my favorite bands or anything with a more or indie, indie-rock or pop-rock sound. They’re fun and full of energy, and they make my friends and I look like a scene from a coming-of-age movie about young kids taking over the world together.

Here are a few songs on my spring break road trip playlist!

1.     The Weekend by Last Dinosaurs

“On the weekend, you’ll find yourself and lose it again”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gha2TQj-xp8

This song sounds exactly like what it is – it sounds like a pure fun weekend. It sounds like hands out a car window and wind through your hair. It’s pretty perfect to kick off the start of a good time

2.     The Less I Know The Better by Tame Impala

“I said better late than never, just don’t make me wait forever”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FAcaAeIwl1Q

My favorite song by Tame Impala without a doubt. Every thread of rhythm in this is so heavily painted with a sound that’s both dreamy and so very colorful. It deserves to be a theme song or soundtrack for something.

3.     Sex by The 1975

“We’ve got one thing in common it’s this tongue of mine”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKIhXi-yiw8

The 1975 capture the essence of naive feelings and bad decisions, and it’s something that we’ve all had our fair share of. It’s an exciting nostalgia to revisit, especially when you’re around your best friends.

4.     You Only Live Once by The Strokes

“Twenty ways to see the world, twenty ways to start a fight”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pT68FS3YbQ4

A classic in all of my travel playlists. This song really manages to pick me up, and it gives off an energy that I want to bring with me wherever I go. You really do only live once, what better time to make things count then now.

5.     Young Folks by Peter Bjorn and John

“If I told you things I used to do, told you how I used to be, would you go along with someone like me”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIRE6iw-ws4

The perfect song to explore a new place to. It talks about sticking around with someone regardless of anything except the person that they are – that’s what good company’s all about right?

6.     Midnight City by M83

“The night city grows, look and see her eyes, they glow”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dX3k_QDnzHE

What it sounds like to take over a night. Big cities, neon lights, late night car rides. This right here gives you the basis of any possible epic movie moment
