5 Classic Christmas Movies you Should watch this Year

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SJSU chapter.

If you’re into classic movies (basically anything on TCM) then you’re going to love these classic Christmas films.

Meet Me in St. Louis

This 1944 musical has romance, family and life lessons. This comedy doesn’t revolve around Christmas but, the Christmas scenes are enough to make you feel warm and fuzzy on the inside. It also stars Judy Garland and I think that’s reason enough to watch!

A Wonderful Life

                                                                                                                                                    http://gortoncenter.org/event/film-series-gorton-wonderful-life/

This movie was released on Christmas Day in 1946. It’s heartwarming and will also have you reflecting on your life (in a positive way)! This black and white film will also be shown in various theaters this year so check out your local listings.

White Christmas

                                                                                                                http://www.amc.com/talk/2010/12/reasons-we-cant-get-enough-white-christmas

Another musical romantic comedy that will be shown in theaters this year. White Christmas was released in 1954 and starts Bing Crosby.

If you’re not into black and whites there also some great Christmas cartoons. You can most likely catch these on the 25 Days of Christmas on Freeform (the new ABC Family). And CBS also airs Christmas specials.

Santa Claus is Coming to Town

                                                                                                                                                          https://decider.com/movie/santa-claus-is-coming-to-town/

This was always one of my favorite Christmas cartoons. It’s a stop-motion film that is narrated by Fred Astaire. It’s funny, cute and full of music you’re guaranteed to end up singing along with.

Frosty the Snowman

                                                                                                                         http://mentalfloss.com/article/72865/8-jolly-happy-facts-about-frosty-sn…

Everyone knows the story of Frosty the Snowman. My favorite rendition is the one that airs on CBS each year. Let your inner child be free and enjoy the tale of Frosty the Snowman. The 1969 version will air on CBS Saturday Dec 9th at 9:00 pm right after Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.

A Christmas Story

This one is more recent than the others but a classic nonetheless. I cannot count how many times my family and I have watched this movie and walked around saying “you’ll shoot your eye out.” This movie has so many funny moments. A great watch for a family gathering!

Tiana is a senior at San Jose State University and she is learning to take each day one step at a time while adjusting to life in the Bay Area. She's often watching YouTube videos on D.I.Y projects or hair care, but majority of the time she's watching Parks and Rec episodes while pretending to do homework. In the midst of all that homework dodging she's also casually planning her dream wedding.
