Distance is defined as the amount of space between two things. Some define it as v*t=d or even as the length of a race. As a someone in a long distance relationship, it means a whole lot more than that. Distance means not getting to see the love of your life every day. It means no cuddling, no movie nights and certainly no Valentine’s Day date. However, there are ways around that, making sure you still have an awesome Valentine’s Day experience. Here are 5 ways to make long distance Valentine’s Day work.

1. FaceTime Date!

Plan a time where both of you are free and make a date out of it. Maybe you…

  • Eat dinner together

  • Watch the same movie

  • Get intimate

  • Talk!

It’s certainly not the same as being in person but you just have to make the best of it!

2. Make Valentine’s Day come early or late!

If you have the means to see one another before or after Valentine’s Day, make the most of it! Go out for dinner! See a movie! Splurge a bit! Valentine’s Day is there just to remind your special someone that you care. You have the ability to make that happen any day! So use it as an excuse to treat yourselves.

3. Send a Valentine’s Care Package!

Everyone loves getting care packages! Now imagine one from your significant other! Make it fun by adding…

  • Favorite chocolate

  • Favorite candy

  • Candles

  • Love Letter

  • Sexy Polaroids

It’s extra cute to a red and pink Valentine’s theme!

4. Surprise them with a delivery!

It’s a classic move to have flowers delivered to your lover. If that’s not your style, order them an edible arrangement or even pizza! Have the delivery person attach a cute message. They’ll be so surprised and so thankful for that you thought of them.

5. Ask their roommate for help!

How cute would it be to come back to your dorm room and it be decorated? Get in touch with your significant other’s roommate and ask if they’d be willing to blow up balloons and decorate! You can Venmo them for the supplies and even for the time they spent decorating. It’s a win-win!

I know how hard it is being away from someone you love, especially when you’re drowning in cute couples. Long distance takes a lot of work but I think it’s worth it.

I’d like to take a second to pay tribute to my boyfriend for putting in as much effort as he does. Being hundreds of miles apart isn’t ideal but we truly make it work. The countless hours spent on FaceTime, the money spent traveling to see each other, and the emotional toll it takes being apart is a lot, but I’d do it over and over again. I can’t imagine making this work with anyone other than him. So if there’s one piece of advice that I can give anyone interested in starting a long distance relationship, it’s this… If you both want to make it work, it will. It’s very hard and takes a lot of trust but it’s more than worth it.
