Event Alert: The Vagina Monologues at Simmons College

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Simmons chapter.

The Vagina Monologues is an award-winning play based on V-Day Founder/playwright Eve Ensler’s interviews with more than 200 women. With humor and grace, the piece celebrates women’s sexuality and strength. Through this play and the liberation of this one word, countless women throughout the world have taken control of their bodies and their lives. For more than a decade, The Vagina Monologues has given voice to experiences and feelings not previously exposed in public and brought a deeper consciousness to the conversation around ending violence against women and girls. Each year, 90 percent of proceeds from tickets benefit a local organization and the remaining 10 percent of proceeds benefit a spotlight region of the world chosen by V-Day.

Introducing The Simmons Monologues!

The Vagina Monologues have become outdated and do not reflect the identities of the Simmons community. We have taken it upon ourselves to create our own show that better represents our genders and sexualities. The goal of this preview is to inspire others to tell their stories and celebrate their identities. We hope that one day the Simmons Monologues will be able to become its own independent production, and are looking forward to seeing what future generations of Simmons students create. Thank you to those who have shared their stories for this year’s production.

This year, the local organization we will be supporting is Rosie’s Place, a sanctuary for poor and homeless women here in Boston. For more information on Rosie’s Place, visit their website here.
