Boston Women’s Fund HERtrivia Night

Women make up just about 49.6% of the world today. That sounds pretty close to 50% doesn’t it? Then that must mean they are treated equally to men then? This sadly is not the case. Women today are not treated the same as their male counterparts, especially those of color. Non-profit organizations called Women’s Funds are popping up all around the United States to bridge the equality gap. The Boston Women’s Fund works tirelessly using teamwork to manage, market and fundraise for the equality of women in the Greater Boston area.

Boston Women’s Fund is an important non-profit organization that works to support marginalized females in achieving racial, social and economic justice. The organization was founded in 1984 by a strong group of progressive women who wanted to shorten the funding gap between female and male organizations.

This past week on April 25th BWF teamed up with five students from Simmons College, Ashley Wilson, Somali Green, Heather Moeykens, Laura Isaro and me to put on their second annual HERtrivia night. The event was held at MJ O’Connors and consisted of five trivia rounds. There were three teams of six people. Guests consisted of Simmons Alumni, BWF donors and feminists from the Greater Boston Area. Each team was put to the test to answer questions about strong, powerful women throughout history. While the scores were close one team came out on top to win the ultimate prize donated from Funko! The other two teams received gift cards from Boloco and J.P. Licks.

All the money raised through ticket and raffle purchases went to support the different organizations BWF cares for. It was an honor to work with such a phenomenal organization and I hope more people join BWF in the pursuit to bridge the equality gap!
