With Thanksgiving break weeks away, and finals six weeks away, many find it hard to concentrate and buckle down through the last parts of the semester. It is much more easier to push tasks to the side, and go out for a “study break,” than actually do the work. Here are a few study tips to help push you through those long nights.
1. Get Rid of Obvious Distractions
Cellphones, Social Networks, Friends, Boyfriend/Girlfriend: Let’s face it, they’re all huge distractions. Homework usually consists of a little reading here, a lot of socializing there. Place yourself on a time limit. Set an alarm to go off every 15 mins to help you stay on track. Read your chapter/work on your homework consecutively for 15 mins, and check your phone/social sites for 10. After 10 mins has past, go back to the 15 min homework tasks. You’ll be amazed at how much you can accomplish in 15 mins without distractions.
2. Plan Ahead
Make an agenda of things to do! For many, it helps to see when tasks are scratched off a list when completed. Start your study session by making a list of what you need to get done. If it’s a large project, break up the steps to complete into smaller assignments making sure you have plenty of time to complete them.
3. Reward Yourself
When we were little, we were rewarded with treasure boxes, snacks, candy, or even extra time to play during recess if our behavior was good and our work was complete. Why not do the same now?? Give yourself incentives to finish, and work to meet that goal or reward.
These are only a few tips to help you stay ahead of the game. But for those who are balanced all the way around, take advice from my good friend, Chase.
