Five Underrated Cartoons that You Should be Watching Right Now

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Sewanee chapter.

1. Over the Garden Wall

Of all of the cartoons I’ve ever watched (and I’ve watched a ton), this is undoubtedly my favorite. It’s a miniseries that was done by Cartoon Network and features voices from icons like Elijah Wood, Christopher Lloyd, and Tim Curry. The ten part series chronicles the adventures of half-brothers Greg and Wirt as they find their way back home after being lost over the garden wall (hence the title). It only takes two hours to watch and you will be a better person because of it.

2. Total Drama Island

This one is a gem for anyone who’s into reality TV. Hailing from the great nation of Canada, Total Drama Island is basically a satire of shows like Survivor and it’s a bunch of teenagers and a bunch of drama and what’s not to love? If there’s two things I love most in this world it’s good cartoons and good parodies and this show perfectly sums those up. Watch it.

3. Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure

You’ve seen the movie, now go watch the cartoon. I know you’re probably skeptical about this one, but hear me out. It’s better than the sequel that the movie had and the adventures are totally wild. The time travel is all over the place and everything it just super unexpected. Put it on your watch list.

4. One Punch Man

Alright, this one is an anime and I don’t usually watch a ton of those, but it popped up on my Netflix and I was intrigued. The main point of the show is that there’s this guy who can kill anything with just one punch, but that turns out to be a real problem for him. I was pleasantly surprised with this show. The main attraction for this show is its villains. Every episode features a different villain and they are the craziest, weirdest things I think I’ve ever seen in a TV show.

5. Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law

This show is hilarious. It’s about Birdman’s second career as a lawyer for other cartoon superheroes. It’s just as good as you think it would be. This was one of Adult Swim’s earlier TV shows and could have used a lot more love from Cartoon Network, but at least we got what we could while it was still in production. WATCH IT!
