The True History of the PSL: What You Always Wanted to Know

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Seton Hall chapter.

According to legend, “If you say ‘pumpkin spice’, AKA psl, in the mirror three times- a girl in yoga pants will appear and tell you all of her favorite things about fall.”

At midnight on September 1st the Fall Fairy came and visited Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, and every coffee shop in the nation, all in one night just like Santa. When everyone woke up for the next day, we were blessed with the gift of pumpkin spice. This gift only lasts until about the beginning of December when we switch over to peppermint, but that’s a story for another article. Boy, we are blessed. It’s a wonderful flavor that comes only during the fall season.

Pumpkin spice was first introduced to the world in 1879. A farmer in Massachusetts accidently added a splash of pumpkin to his mixture of spice after helping his son make a Jack-O-Lantern. He added the new flavor to his latte and shared it with his family and friends. Initially it wasn’t well received, but after a little bit of tweaking it became the flavor we all know and love.

So, now today a hundred years later, we line up to take part and behold this lovely addition to flavors everywhere. Our taste buds have never been the same.

P.S. The facts are completely made up and Harambe loved pumpkin spice.
