Meet our go-to Greek Life guy, George Balekji!

HC (Her Campus): What is your favorite part about Seton Hall

GB (George Balekji): Definitely the size. It’s a glorified high school.  I like it because people you meet freshmen year you’re still friends with today, and my buddies I met at Pirate Adventure too, they’re my best friends today. So I think that’s the best part of it. You’re not just a number.  You can walk around campus and you know people every time you’re going to class.

HC: What clubs are you involved in?

GB: I’m involved with Pirate Television, WSOU and slightly involved in The Setonian

HC: What do you like most about being a part of WSOU and Pirate Television?

GB: I think WSOU the best part is that since age eighteen I’ve been broadcasting Big East sports.  There are a lot of perks that come with it.  Not only broadcasting the teams, but also in November when I went to Puerto Rico and St. Thomas with the men’s [basketball] team.  For pirate television, the best part is that we’re able to do what we want.  We just have to clear it by one higher up.  For us it’s students running it and for me, it’s what I want to do for a living—be an in-studio personality for sports television. It’s the best way to get started now and figure out what I like to do and gain experience with editing, shooting and all the other aspects of broadcasting which I like.

HC: Are you involved in Greek Life?

GB: Zeta Psi

HC: What is your favorite part about being involved in Greek Life?

GB: Meeting new people. It’s just another way you get to meet everyone. There’s girls, guys I’d never meet from other fraternities and sororities when we do socials with them. Also the aspect of doing all the philanthropy— you help out around the community and other causes you’d never think of.  And definitely the formals, formal season is the best part too.

HC: Is dating easier or harder in the Greek Life community?

GB: It’s definitely easier because if it’s a sorority that you’re fraternity likes to mix with, it’s easy to do social events with them and obviously, it’s so much easier to meet someone too.  You know you’re going to see them on a certain day and you’re in the same spot.  You have a mixer, you’re at a house, whatever.  Introduce yourself to people, get to know them and anything can happen from that point on.

HC: What do you look for in a girl?

GB: Someone that introduces me to new things, not just the same old “go party” and “likes food,” but something interesting about themselves, something unique.  Also one that takes care of herself, not necessarily one who goes to the gym or is a gym buff, but watches what she eats or exercises her own way like dancing, hiking, but normally does it on a daily basis.  Definitely a girl that presents herself well in the sense that she’s classy and I would like to bring her home to mom.

HC: What is your biggest turn-off for a girl?

GB: Smoking cigarettes, definitely.  Also girls who try hard to impress a guy.  Just be yourself.

HC: What is your favorite part about Seton Hall girls?

GB: Since it’s a small school, they’re approachable.  You can go up and talk to them.  It’s nothing crazy and get a conversation started.   That’s the best way to get to know someone and you never know what could lead on from there.

HC: What does your typical weekend look like?

GB: Thursday nights it begins. We shoot our sports debate show on Pirate Television, called “Hall Talk.” From that point on, it would be usually mixers on a Thursday night with whatever sorority and now since I’ve been 21, it’s been more of pushing to go to Hoboken or Morristown with my brothers who are 21.  Now since the weather is getting warmer, day drinks come into play, which is great.

HC: What is your favorite song at the moment?

GB: “Love Yourz” by J.Cole

HC: What is your zodiac sign?

GB: Aquarius

HC: What is your favorite food?

GB: My mom’s homemade lasagna

HC: If you could have dinner with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be?

GB: Stephen Colbert

HC: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

GB: When I’m 31, whatever I’m doing to bring home money, I just don’t want to consider it “work.”  I see myself working in sports television hopefully in front of a camera, but also living somewhere warm for sure— South California, or down South, doesn’t have to be Florida, just down South like the Carolinas and Georgia.  And then obviously at 31, being with someone that I love, too.

HC: Will you be putting “Campus Cutie” on your resume?

GB: I’ll just save that for when I get the interview and then that will really hook in the employers, when I tell them that I’m a “Campus Cutie.”
