My Personal Hero

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Seton Hall chapter.

Everyone has someone they look up to want to be like one day. My personal hero happens to be my mom. After almost two years of training, my mom ran in the TCS New York City Marathon. The New York City Marathon is an annual marathon that courses through the five boroughs of New York City. It happens to be the largest marathon in the world with over 98,000 applicants in this year’s race. I am proud to say that my mom finished that race despite the adversity she had to go through. In 2016, she injured her knee while sand boarding in Dubai, but she did not let that stop her from achieving her goal. From early on in 2016 up until November 2017, my mom had trained endlessly to make sure she was fit to endure the marathon. From waking up at 6am and running 5 miles before work, to participating in numerous half-marathons and 10ks every other weekend, her hard work finally paid off. She proved to her family and others that doubted her that she could run 26.2 miles. My mom’s perseverance has taught me that you can put anything you put your mind to. She has proven from time to time that success comes from hard work, energy, dedication and a support system. My mom inspires me that I can manifest any reality I desire through hard work and perseverance. I am lucky enough to have a role model like her in my life.
