Happy 1 Year College of Communication & the Arts!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Seton Hall chapter.

It has been a year since the Department of Communication and the Arts began proposal meetings to branch off from the College of Arts and Sciences. Now, a year after those stressful meetings, and half a year after the announcement of the College of Communication and the Arts, students are acclimating to the new curriculum and expectations.

I was entering my junior year when I was grandfathered in to the College of Communication and the Arts. The announcement that my major, Communication Studies, was branching off into its own school was excellent news. I was excited because graduating from a college that specialized in my major would look far more prestigious on my resume.

I spent my first couple of years of university in the little department that could. My department was small, but growing. Right now it is one of the most exciting times to be a part of the communication field, whether it be PR, journalism, marketing, social media branding, etc. These fields are developing exponentially and are becoming more and more popular.

I’ve witnessed and felt the change from being a part of the department to becoming a student of the college. Now, there are even more opportunities that I am privy to. I have been able to acquire an internship with CNBC directly because of the experiences that I have had since my department became a college.

According to the Seton Hall website, “the College of Communication and the Arts will bring national attention to Seton Hall University; leverage the expertise of its faculty, the University’s proximity to New York City, and the existing program inventory; and provide additional nimbleness in responding to the ever-evolving and growing changes in these disciplines.”

My diploma will mean more because I’m graduating from Seton Hall’s College of Communication and the Arts. While Seton Hall is known for its nursing school and the business school, pretty soon it will be known for its communication school as well. For all of the communication students who are now a part of this school, it’s a great day to be a Pirate!
