5 Things Only Long Distance Best Friends Would Understand

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Seton Hall chapter.

Long distance relationships can be hard. But long distance best friendships are the absolute worst. The separation anxiety, the panic attacks, then slow acceptance. Leslie Knope said it best: “I need you to text me every 30 seconds saying that everything is gonna be okay.” After going through the initial stages of denial, anger, depression and grief, you’ll come to realize that your long distance best friend is a friend for life. Here are five things that only long distance BFFs would understand:

1.     Jealousy

You may think that jealousy is only a part of your romantic life, however that is all about to change. When you and your BFF split ways for college, you even got each other charm bracelets to make sure that people knew she already had a bestie and wasn’t looking for another!

2.     Skype is life

Even though you can’t see each other every day anymore, it’s okay. With today’s technology you can be across the country and still Skype your BFF to give them the rundown of the craziness that happened in your day.

3.     They are the only people who knew you in your awkward stage

Oh, adolescence didn’t exactly treat us well. The best part of going to college is that no one there knew you through your awkward phase. But your long distance best friend did and she will never let you live it down, as it should be.

4.     When you do see each other, you wear matching outfits

Maybe this is just me, but when I see my long distance best friend, we go all out. We wear matching outfits and spend our days running around our hometown like we own the place. Everyone has to know that we’re BFFs.

5.     You have the best memories

Yes, she’s seen you through your awkward phase. But you also have the best memories with each other because you’ve known each other your whole lives. And you’ll be friends forever, because long distance best friends are actual life-long soulmates.
