An Outlook on the KAABOO Festival

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SDSU chapter.

With KAABOO’s second festival rapidly approaching in September, it is essential to review the festival’s debut in 2015 and compare lineups.

The KAABOO festival at Del Mar Fairgrounds kicked off almost a year ago and it is ready to do it all over again Sept. 16 through the 18.

In 2015, KAABOO epitomized the stereotypical San Diego lay back in the sand under the retiring summer sun vibe. With most of the headliners and subheadliners falling under the island/reggae genres. Some of the Headliners included: No Doubt, The Killers, Snoop Dogg, Foster the People, 311, Slightly Stoopid, Dirty Heads, Young the Giant and AWOLNATION.

Although 2016’s Lineup includes some reggae bands, there is more variety this year. This variety can be seen in the headliners alone, which range from Jimmy Buffet, Aerosmith, Jack Johnson, Fall Out Boy, Lenny Kravitz and Daryl Hall & John Oates to The Chainsmokers, Steve Aoki, DJ Snoopadelic, Flo Rida, Ludacris and Echosmith.

Although the music has changed, one thing remains the same, which every KAABOO goer will appreciate, “Humor Me.” KAABOO’s “Humor Me” is a collection of comedians set to perform in their own designated stage during the musical festivities. KAABOO’s 2016 “Humor Me” has headliners within itself, which include: Sarah Silverman, Dana Carvey and Cheech and Chong. Last year’s headliners included Joel McHale, Lewis Black, Chris D’Elia and Anthony Jeselnik.

KAABOO passes are quickly selling out, but some one-day passes are still available.

No matter what your musical preference is, if you enjoy San Diego and all its beauty, KAABOO festival will not disappoint.

Currently in the process of obtaining a journalism degree at San Diego State University. Born and raised in the Inland Empire (specifically, Colton, for all my fellow Inland Empire-ians). I am an aspiring music journalist, eager to interview the hottest in the industry and justly geek out in front of them (like a real professional). My music taste ranges from the swing era of ole blue eyes, the British revolution, flower power and psychedelic rock of the 60's and 70's, to today's soul and alternative rock. elenamacias11@yahoo.com
I am currently a sophomore at San Diego State majoring in Journalism with an emphasis in Public Relations. I have four years of experience as a writer and editor for my high school newspaper and am now one of the CC's for Her Campus SDSU. Taco Tuesday is my favorite day of the week, and yes, I am related to Abraham Lincoln.
