Facebook Fame: The SDSU Meme Page

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SDSU chapter.

Find yourself addicted to a certain page on Facebook, reading and liking the different pictures posted?  If so, you are more than likely obsessed with the one and only San Diego State Meme page which consists of numerous hilarious memes about SDSU college life.  Created a little over a week ago by an SDSU freshman, the page has generated over 3,400 “likes” as well as spurred numerous students to make and post their own memes to the page for others to enjoy.

What exactly is a “meme” you may ask?   It is a picture with a funny caption relaying some mocking or sarcastic aspect of life.  Especially popular among college campuses, these images, which are reproduced over and over again with different captions, have given students a chance to make fun of or emphasize the crazy experiences of students in college.  It offers a chance for students to share a laugh with one another and join in on the ludicrousness of certain campus features.

If students are not talking about the hilarious memes already posted on the SDSU Meme page, they’re coming up with their own to post later.  This phenomenon has generated huge buzz among the population of SDSU students within only a week of its creation and it has just begun.  At this rate, this one page will capture the whole school’s attention generating more buzz than Kim Kardashian’s wedding…or her divorce!
