Th3 Clara: Trevor Wright

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SCU chapter.

Few people on campus have the unique hobbies and innovative spirit of Trevor Wright.  This senior accounting major from Honolulu, Hawaii, has had an inspiring run here at SCU, demonstrating leadership, creativity, and philanthropy in all of his pursuits.  Most of us know Trevor for his expert photography skills frequently documented on his website Th3 Clara. He’s been capturing the party scene here at Santa Clara for almost a year and a half now. Just before his junior year (fall 2011), he decided to pick up a camera and try his hand at capturing the crazy-fun life we all lead here, which resulted in amazing shots!  Ever since his creative debut with the Pike Jungle video, he’s been continuously raising the bar. Here he captured Andrew Nam winning the wing-eating contest at Kappa Karnival last spring:

This choice moment was posted on his site Th3 Clara, which he began in January 2012.  “My goal was to have an easy and central destination SCU students could go to in order to see photos of themselves and their friends at a wide variety of events.”  And he’s done that very well:  covering everything from Greek formals to APB events, the site is a catalog of the finest moments of Santa Clara life—the ones in which we’re just hanging out and having fun with our friends.  In other words, Th3 Clara provides everything we will want to look back on when reminiscing on our college days.

Beyond just providing a place to share photos, Th3 Clara has expanded into a blog that covers a wide range of topics, serving as a sort of secondary newspaper with the freedom to cover topics our newspaper couldn’t.  For example, the story of Arman Dezfuli-Ariomandi, a current sophomore and creator of Slide, a game that held a spot on the iTunes top 10 apps for a few weeks.  Since the school paper wouldn’t publish it, Trevor did, and it got over 1,100 views the day it was posted.

However, Trevor isn’t all photography and articles.  He also embodies the spirit of giving back that Santa Clara works to instill in us. Last quarter, he used his immense website fan base and the Greek system to hold a clothing drive for San Jose’s Donation Depot, which provides clothing and bedding free of charge to low-income and needy families.  A prize incentive of four hours of free photography at an event for the winning Greek organization helped him collect over 500 items!

It doesn’t end with Th3 Clara for Trevor.  He also creates amazing glass bowls and vases, and captures more artistic photos of subjects outside SCU events.  He continues to help others and display his leadership as a math tutor (because let’s not forget, the kid is also a genius, in addition to his other talents).

Trevor will be graduating this winter, but he intends to keep the website going for at least another year and is looking for other students to help take it over.  If you have the same passion as Trevor and want to maintain this outlet for the real life of Santa Clara students, you should definitely seek him out.
