An Organization You Should Know About: Love Your Melon

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SCU chapter.

Love Your Melon is an amazing organization dedicated to ending childhood cancer by selling adorable apparel. It is a brand run by college students and was first started as an entrepreneurship project at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota.

There are over 11,000 college students at 736 schools that work in Campus Crews and are dedicated to the mission of placing a hat on every child battling cancer. Campus Crews host events around their campus, such as raffles and drawings, to help spread awareness about Love Your Melon. They work towards credit levels in order to participate in donation events and household visits with children and their familes.

College ambassadors work with their crew, as well as the national organization and their region, to promote the brand through posting on social media accounts about upcoming releases and participating in social media challenges. Ambassadors have the opportunity to visit families and hospitals in person to donate hats while dressed as superheroes. Through this organization, students have the opportunity to bring joy and happiness to brave children undergoing treatmentSCU’s own ambassadors are working on getting their Campus Crew to become an official Registered Student Organization next quarter, so be on the lookout for more information about how to get involved!

Love Your Melon is partnered with two other national organizations, CureSearch and the Pinky Swear Foundation. 25% of net proceeds from each product sold go to CureSearch to fund childhood cancer research. Another 25% net proceeds go towards the Pinky Swear Foundation, which provides support to children and their families through covering rent and mortgage payments and other ways of immediate support.

There are periodic product releases on the Love Your Melon website (www.loveyourmelon.com). Some of the sample products are shown below.

Because of Love Your Melon and its ambassadors, more people are becoming aware of the organization and its fight to end cancer.

She is addicted to coffee and will most likely say she needs more coffee throughout the day. She has truly found a home at Santa Clara and looks forward to many more adventures as a Bronco.
Natalie started as Editor-in-Chief for Her Campus Santa Clara in the fall of 2014. She is a senior English major, and no, she doesn't want to be a teacher. If she has any free time, chances are you'll find her reading with a cup of tea at her side or lying in bed binge-watching Netflix.
