College Fashion Week San Francisco

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SCU chapter.

Her Campus Media hosted San Francisco’s College Fashion Week on October 25th at the Origin Boutique Nightclub. CFW has been around since 2012, but this is their first year coming to the great state of California. I didn’t know what to expect, but I put together a cute outfit, grabbed my two besties and hit the road!

Turns out, the event was completely free for students, and sponsors offered lots of free perks before the fashion show. Here are the highlights of College Fashion Week:

The Sponsors:  Tresemmé, the official sponsor of Mercedes-Benz Fashion week in NYC was doing hair before the event while we sipped on Vita Coco and snacked on free Luna Bars. Bare Minerals, a makeup company that I personally love, was matching everyone with their perfect foundation shade at all the stations. The best part? They gave you your perfect match and a foundation brush for free! Other notables included Boohoo clothing – which put together the looks for the fashion show – and Simon Premium Outlets.

Student Involvement: Like I said before, I didn’t know what kind of event this would be, so when I found out all of the models and performers were actual college students I was thrilled! I have so much respect for the gorgeous and diverse group of girls who had the courage to get up there and strut their stuff. There were also two amazing student performances by Jenna Lavoy and Si Si Ni Moja, an amazingly energetic SF State African dance group!

Free Stuff: In addition to the free foundation from Bare Minerals and hair styling by Tresemmé, every person who attended got a free swag bag filled with vouchers and discounts for companies like Bare Minerals, European Wax Center (ouch!), Simon Premium Outlets, and a 7 day keratin treatment sample from Tresemmé. Her Campus Media took it a step further by giving all sponsors and writers the VIP treatment – literally!

VIPs could sit in the front rows of the show (there was general seating around the perimeter) and got a whole other set of swag bags filled with Vita Coco coconut water, Tresemmé hair sprays & dry shampoos, and more!

The Looks: All clothes were by Boohoo, and they organized the show into three sections: Imperial, Brooklyn Princess, and Woodlander.

The put together and authoritative woman seemingly inspired the Imperial section, but there was a definite sense of comfort. The looks included a lot of camouflage, metallic pink jackets, and even a pink army jacket and pants duo!

Brooklyn Princess was by and large my favorite, featuring simultaneously street-smart and feminine looks. There were metallic skirts and letterman jacket-inspired cardigans, and most ensembles featured high necklines with a form-fitting, flattering silhouette.

Woodlander was an interesting collection when it came to textures. There were sequined shoes paired with furry jackets and jeans, as well as slouchy sweaters and distressed jeans. It was filled with all the things you’d want to keep you warm in style!

All in all, College Fashion Week was a success! We hope they keep coming back to SF on their tour so that our readers can enjoy all the free goodies next year. And speaking of goodies – Boohoo is having a 20% off sale on the whole website right now with the code SAVE20, check it out!
