It’s that terrifying and exciting time of year again where ¼ of the Santa Clara undergraduate population finds themselves asking if it’s still okay to say, “I’m still hoping to figure it out!” when someone asks what they want to do when they finish school. It’s a time when large groups of seniors running around campus shotgunning beers in weird places becomes a normal Tuesday night, and many find themselves in a constant state of panic. So naturally, this would be the perfect time (while they have nothing else on their minds and plates) to ask seniors the one piece of advice they’d give underclassmen about making the most of their time at SCU.

Here is some of the advice the class of 2017 wishes to impart on all those with a few more years in Claradise.

  1. “Get an internship every summer to figure out what you do and don’t like to do job-wise.”
  2. Use the career center for advice on interviewing, resumes, and cover letters!
  3. Ride the bronco.
  4. Go see an SCU production instead of watching Netflix.
  5. Create and maintain a good work/life balance.

I didn’t even know we had a career center. (Just kidding- and you should definitely check out their online resources!) Make sure you’re using all the resources the school provides – and that doesn’t just apply to Sushi Tuesday or the new acai machine.

Riley is a junior at Santa Clara University majoring in English and minoring in French and Francophone Studies. Though she studies two beautiful languages with rich vocabularies, she is often heard tossing around eloquent words and phrases such as, "cool dude," or "rad." If you have a dog, she'll ask to pet it.
Laurel Fisher is a senior at Santa Clara University. She is double majoring in math and French. She loves traveling, scrapbooking, and anything to do with France. In her free time, she loves taking photos of just about anything, watching Netflix, eating delicious food, going to the gym, and spending time with her friends.
