This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Scranton chapter.

We are proud to say we live in a country where our opinions can be voiced. We are proud to say we attend a University where our ideals go hand in hand with respect, human dignity and a sense of community. We are proud to say we are part of a team where college students join together across the nation to promote and generate good.

Her Campus is the number one online publication targeting college women. Her Campus Scranton is able to capture a huge audience having exceptional viewership and viral articles.

Her Campus has spread its wings and flown, created by three ambitious, hard-working, motivated Harvard graduates. Since its inception, it has allowed human beings to connect through similar stories, lifestyles, issues and even humor. Her Campus is a virtual place to share with others and to inspire others.

We have seen Her Campus cover prominent issues including any type of assault, disorders, relationships and every day struggles. We have also seen this magazine use media entertainment and pop culture to spark any young reader’s interest.

Her Campus Scranton is not perfect, nor are our writers, nor is anybody. Our goal is to live up to Her Campus’ standard. Our goal is to capture our readers and spread the joy of reading online blogs, as they are rapidly becoming more popular in today’s culture. Offending anybody is not what Her Campus Scranton intends. We stress to our writers the importance of good journalism. But, we must maintain our theme of college-based, light-hearted, good and fun content. It is our duty to appeal to a younger audience and our duty to primarily target Scranton students in our articles, sometimes using words and phrases only Scranton students will understand, providing more relatable content and helping our amazing school to stand out from other amazing schools involved with Her Campus. Our articles are real, there is a real person behind each who might have had that experience he or she is sharing. HC Scranton was created last year through a lot of time and effort by two amazing students, and we want that legacy to live on.

Our group of enthusiastic and hard-working students are doing something they love, something that gives them meaning. You can never truly understand the feeling of seeing your writing, your thoughts, your creation shared on social media until it actually happens to you- and it’s a truly amazing and rewarding feeling.

In our society today, one click can ruin a reputation. Her Campus Scranton has seen support and respect from so many of our amazing and kind readers, and we also unfortunately have seen some disrespect. This is natural, this is expected. We stress to our team the importance of accepting criticism. But, when somebody within our own community deliberately condemns and disparages our whole team, built from nothing and brought up to something so large, it is hard to ignore.

There is a level of respect expected among peers especially at this university and that bar was lowered recently. So, we want to address the situation in a manor reflecting our values- with class and with strength. If we have ever offended anybody in any way, we deeply apologize. We do not want to continue offending anyone and will work diligently to correct this and to be more cautious. Though, we will not change our content, we will not be discouraged and we will not let a labeling and belittling article affect our work in any way. To our group of 50 team members, thank you for your hard work. To our supporters, thank you for your motivation, especially when we need it most.
