Kony 2012: The Bigger Picture

By Brandi Thomas
March 21, 2012 - 9:55pm

By now many of you are among the millions of Youtube viewers who have watched the 29 minute documentary released by a non-profit organization, Invisible Children, entitled Kony 2012. More than likely you also have become aware of the backlash that Invisible Children has received; with many people questioning the legitimacy of their claims and their organization. Leaving aside the allegations that have been brought against the Invisible Children campaign (which the organization addresses here: http://www.invisiblechildren.com/critiques.html) I admire the campaign’s ability to unite and bring a sense of purpose to our generation. Big Brother is Watching

March 4, 2012 - 1:07pm

We’ve all seen it before: a tiny little tan colored box with words pops up in the corner of our searches on Google.  It speaks of new privacy settings and suggests that we take a look at them.  Chances are, most of us probably ignored it as we searched for some specific link or picture.  A few of us probably skimmed it, thinking to ourselves “Okay, no big deal.  I can make a few privacy changes when needed.  Besides, why worry?  It’s just Google.  I can trust this site.”  Right? Warat Home: Students Respond to September 11th
Written by Nicole Quinn and Nina Shengold
Directed by University of Scranton Student Catherine Fischer Every year September 11th comes. The students at the University of Scranton rush to Starbucks to get their coffees then run to get to class on time, and later fight to get a good seat in the library so they can cram for their midterms.  Maybe if they are writing a paper, they notice date but a after minute, they continue typing because that research paper, that Bio-Chem lab, that Honor’s project just can’t wait. Or, worse, maybe they don’t notice the date at all. Then the day passes, as if nothing ever happened. READ MORE...

Galentine’s Day

By Jess Talarick
February 11, 2012 - 3:58pm

NBC’s Parks and Recreation heroine Leslie Knope knows the importance of girlfriends.  On the February 2 episode Leslie celebrated Galentine’s Day, a holiday held the day before Valentine’s Day, with a luncheon for her favorite female friends.  Following the episode, Galentine’s Day was a trending topic on twitter.  The fictional holiday is starting to gain some real celebrants.

According to the UCLA School of Medicine, girlfriends are good for our health.  A study conducted by the university revealed that hanging out with female friends releases oxytocin in our brains, which reduces stress.  Now that’s something to celebrate. With February 14th right around the corner, it’s time to start prepping!

By Danielle Del Prete
December 4, 2011 - 9:57pm

Many of us give in to the latest trends and shop for fast fashion, or cheap clothes that are on trend from retailers who pump out new, inexpensive styles each season. For us, this translates into a fabulous, on-trend wardrobe that keeps people guessing because we don’t have to wear the same old thing all the time. For the environment, our overconsumption is a cause for concern. READ MORE
