10 Reasonable College Student New Years Resolutions

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Scranton chapter.

Resolution is defined as “a firm decision to do or not to do something.” Every year we tell ourselves we are going to make a change to better our lives. Those who are motivated and willing are those who will succeed. It’s hard as college students to stick to our new years resolutions. But if you’re like me, and a month later didn’t decide on one that would be reasonable to do while away at school, here are some choices.

1. Working out more and eating healthyThis is the most cliche new years reolustion that more people decide to make. Find something that motivates you throughout the year. I like to think about that dress that I’ve been dying to fit in! Make it a routine to hit the gym, and grab a few friends with you! This resolution can benefit you immensly.

2. Reading more!Finishing a book is as satisfying as having a great workout. To complete a book is empowering. I read anytime I have free time; it is soothing and education. Even if you’re not a bookworm, this resolutioin is still doable. Going from reading zero books in 2015 to one book in 2016 is already an acomplishment. Find something that you cannot put down! You’re welcome.

3.  Drink more waterThere are days where my coffee to water ratio is four to one. I sometimes wake up dehydrated the next day without realizing it is because i barely drank water! Buy a refillable water bottle from Target or Marshalls, and keep refilling it!

4. Watch less TVWe are all guilty of binge watching a series on Netflix. Decreasing the “eight episodes a night” rital can mean more time to go outside or even study!

5. Leave your ex in the past2015 is behind us and so is your ex. Leave that person in the past where they belong.

6. Live positivelyLiving a positive life is something we cannot always control. Being able to recognize negative situations we encounter and removing ourselves from them is important. It’s important in our growth as a human being. Living positively can help our mental health and well being.

7. No procrastingProcrasting is one of my biggest weaknesses. We can all admit that we are guilty of procrastinating the s#$% out of our school work. Starting a new semester means having a fresh start to control your workload. Start now! Take chare and don’t slack off.

8. Save more moneySaving money at school is nearly impossible. This is probably one of the hardest resolutions you can keep. But, put some extra change in a jar every day this year. Keep this routine going with dollar bills, too!

9. Spend less time on social media!Exactly what it says above. Get off your phone and pay attention to the people around you. You will learn more about the company you keep than what’s on your Facebook.

10. Stay informed of current eventsBeing a strategic communication major, it is essential that I know current events. For everyone else not in that major or one related, it is still important to know about the world. Subscribing to websites like TheSkimm is a good and easy way to be informed with news everywhere.
