Autumn’s Top 5 Must Hits During Autumn

It’s everyone’s favorite time of year again! The leaves change, sweater weather returns, and pumpkin spice reappears from hibernation. That’s right, it’s fall! I would like to think I am an expert in all things autumn, primarily because it’s my name. All jokes aside, fall is one of my favorite seasons(not trying to sound bias, fall is truthfully a lovely time of year). Halloween is one of my favorite holidays and I am in love with anything creepy or mysterious. Everything about it is right up my alley! Savannah seems to be quite the unique place to spend fall. The leaves and weather shift the tiniest bit, yet the citizens still go full out with the autumn festivities! Therefore, I am here to deliver you guys with a list of five things you should accomplish this year in order for your fall adventures to be fulfilled.

1. Go On A Savannah Ghost Tour:

This one may seem like a given for Savannah residents, but it seriously is a must if you live here! Going on a Savannah ghost tour in October is the perfect way to get in the Halloween spirit. After all, Savannah is the most haunted city in the U.S. Most people can’t say they have toured the most haunted city in the country, but you can! Whether you believe in ghosts or not, it’s an eerie way to get to know the rich history Savannah has to offer. You can go on walking or bus tours(I recommend the bus tours if you’ve had a long day of classes or if you need to unwind). My favorite ghost tour here is the one that picks up on River Street. They take you to a couple haunted locations and drive you around the city as well!

2. Sales and Shopping on East Broughton Street:

This activity is something I’d recommend all year around. However, we’re all college students who are struggling financially. Therefore, I will be truthful with you. If you are going to go shopping on Broughton, do it when autumn rolls around. Many of the establishments that you can get sweets at offer fun sales for Halloween, especially for SCAD students. In fact, many stores offer fun discounts in the fall for SCAD students thanks to the back to school season and the holidays. Also, several stores are tons of fun to explore if you need to rework your closet for sweater weather!

3. Explore A Pop Up Halloween Shop

A lot of people have the tradition to stop by a Spirit Halloween and find their costume for October 31st. I know I have made this a tradition since I was a kid, even though I make or pull together my costumes on my own nowadays. Still, one of my all time favorite activities is exploring the spooky decor, costumes and makeup, and even the candy within these stores. It’s become a trend on Instagram and other social media’s to go check out and have fun with friends in stores like Ikea or even Target. Why not a pop up Halloween store? I recommend that if you like going to these shops and want to shop around in them, go twice. Go in October and then return after Halloween for the store closing sales so that way you can get good deals on different items you might use for next year!

4. Make a Fall Music Playlist

I think this is one people don’t usually consider doing. I correlate a lot of my music with the seasons for some odd reason. For example, when I listen to Mumford and Sons’ album Sigh No More, I think of winter. However, when I listen to their album Babel, I think of fall. I also associate Nirvana’s album Nevermind with fall as well, but I honestly could not tell you why.  Maybe it’s the way it sounds or perhaps when I first listened to it. Either way, finding music that puts you in the right fall spirit seems like the perfect fit in this list.

5. Pumpkin Spice Tour

If you are a basic white girl like me, you’ll love going around to the various coffee shops that Savannah has to offer and trying everything pumpkin flavored. Some locations I’d recommend to check include the coffee shop across from Arnold Hall, Blue Door. I go there every day I have a class at Arnold and they never fail to impress me. It’s also an Instagram hot spot! There are so many different photo opportunities there! Of course, a given on the pumpkin spice tour in Savannah is Foxy Loxy. They are known as one of the best coffee shops in Savannah! The atmosphere of the restaurant is enough for me to get in the right autumn mood. Be sure to ask around and see what others would suggest as you travel your way through Savannah’s coffee shops!
