It All Starts with a Smile

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SAU chapter.

Do Your Research

Impress the interviewer with your knowledge. Always do intensive research before applying to a company. You want to make sure the company is the right fit for you. Having knowledge of the company will help you tremendously once you get hired in carrying the companies name properly.

Interview Runway

First impressions are a thing, so always dress to impress.  Let’s talk about appropriate clothing. Find out how a company’s employees dress on a normal day, and dress the next step up.  Wear something that YOU would wear, because in an interview you want to be your true self. Being comfortable in your clothing will boost your confidence. Also, the shoulder rule for any kind of interview… Always cover your shoulders! You never know the company’s clothing policies, and this is usually included.

Arrive on Time!!

This is very important. You don’t want to look bad before even talking. This goes along with the first impression, and it is very important. Being late to an interview can really hurt your chances of getting hired. It gives the impression to your employer that you’re unorganized and that you may not really care about the job. Try to be at least fifteen minutes early. Arriving early will allow you to find where the interview is and allows you to relax before going in.

Be Confident!

Being confident and upbeat will show the interviewer that you are excited about the new opportunity. Confidence looks good on everyone. If you go to an interview with no confidence in yourself, why should the interviewer have confidence in you? So, always give yourself a pep talk before, try to stay upbeat, and smile often. Sometimes in interviews smiling is the last thing you want to do, but smiling will get you the job.

Remember, handshakes and eye contact!

A firm handshake and eye contact will get you a job! Always start and finish interviews with a firm handshake. If there is more than one person interviewing you, make sure to shake each of their hands. This will start you off great because it shows you have respect for the interviewer and the job. Also, finish the interview with a firm handshake and a kind smile. It will make the interviewer remember you. Eye contact also screams confidence!

Good Luck Girly!!
