Feature Friday: Amanda Style

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SAU chapter.

Welcome to Ambrose, where we love our friends and love to see them happy. In celebration of our fab Senior Editor, Amanda Bertolozzi, this week is going to focus on what she loves about the QC and Ambrose. Now don’t worry, her loves are loves that many of us have. So read up ladies, and get ready to learn what to suggest when your bff says “there is nothing fun to do here!”

Atomic Coffee (4707 N. Brady St.)

“All these chain coffee places suck,” said someone sometime that doesn’t have a Dunkin rewards app or a Starbucks reward card…

Atomic Coffee Bar is the place to be! Coffee and teas following a west coast style of drink, this is the place to get a creative and new drink. Super simple drive thru style makes it convenient on the way to class or anywhere in the city. Thankfully for us, it’s on one of the busiest roads. Even an adventurous lady could take a stop there any move right on to Azteca (see #3)

Modern Woodman Park (209 S. Gaines St.)

Whether you love the Bees boys (Specifically Hart, sorry ladies he’s taken by the hottie in the first pic) or the River Bandits studs, this is the place to be. Home of SAU baseball, River Bandits minor league baseball, Red White and Boom for the 4th and many more fun events; it’s never a bad time. Take a spin on the Ferris wheel or watch the fireworks, this field has a little something for everyone.

Los Agaves and Azteca

Tacos and margs, need we say more? A popular few spots for anyone living and breathing in the quad cities, if you somehow have missed out get in your car and drive, ASAP. Literally stop reading and just go, we understand and support. Hope you can count with your firngers, because if not you can’t keep track of the Azteca’s in this area. Also, Los Agaves has multiple locations. All of these places are delicious and not to be missed out on.

Rookies (2818 Brady St.)

Have you heard of dollar bottles? The famous “blue wall pics?” Popcorn for dinner? If you have said yes to any of these, you know what Rookies is, congrats. If you have not, welcome to Ambrose and get excited because Rooks is the place to be. Homecoming and Last Blast include Kegs & Eggs along with a day you won’t remember (totally bcz of fun not bcz of anything else) and can revisit the pictures for a lifetime. The prices are great and the friendship is hands down one of the best parts of college.

Carriage Haus (312 W. 3rd St)

If you love to dance, participate in tournaments, have a drink or two and just have fun this is the place. About 12:30am on a Saturday/Sunday morning you can see most of Ambrose together. Not to say this place isn’t great 24/7 because it is and the staff has always been PHENOMONEAL! Take a stop by for discounted drinks and fun (see meme). The taco truck and the kabob stand are both close and ready for customers. Snacks and drinks, need I say more?

Anywhere to mourn Harambe, RIP. Niabi Zoo (13010 Niabi Zoo Rd. Coal Valley IL)

Our writers care for animals, and that is why Amanda (and SAU students alike) care about the zoo. With 900 animals representing 160 species you will not be disappointed. They have normal zoo days all the time where you can feed animals and look around, but don’t be fooled it is much more. Boo at the Zoo, Girl Scout days and drinking events make this the place to be no matter what your age. Stop by and have a different day out.

Hope you take these fun suggestions as a way to get out and have some fun! Don’t forget there is more to campus life, it’s a big world in the QC! All locations in Davenport, IA unless otherwise noted

My name is Kat and I chose to live the dream at St. Ambrose University.  During college I spent my time working, writing and enjoying time with friends.
