6 Major Bra Tips You Need To Know

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SAU chapter.

1. Nude Over White

Honestly, white bras are rendered useless until your wedding day or honeymoon. If you want to wear a white or light colored shirt, a nude bra is your best option. This is because white bras often show an outline of the bra under clothing. Whereas, nude bras do not. In addition to this, you can see white bras under black clothing, and they get dingy fast. The image below displays the difference between a white bra (left) and a nude bra (right).

2. Racerback Bras

These are great with tanks when you do not want your straps to show. Racerback bras or T-back bras are front close bras that typically have very thin straps. However, there are some bras that are meant to be seen. They are known as “fashion bras” which pair well with open back shirts. These bras have fun designs.

3. “Stick On Cups” (Chicken Cutlets)

These are utilized for dresses or shirts that are open back or have crazy designs and openings.

4. Strapless/Multiway Bras

These are great when you don’t want any visible straps. Make sure to get one with a good grip, so you don’t have to keep pulling it up all night. Very Sexy Multiway from Victoria’s Secret has great reviews, and it comes with removable straps. If the bra comes with two removable straps, then you have more possibilities. You can cris-cross the straps or wear them regular (like most of your bras). Additionally, you can elongate one strap and hook it on each side to wear with halter dresses and halter tops.

5. The Hook

If you’re wearing your new bra on the loosest hook, then you’re doing it right. If you’re wearing your new bra on the tightest hook, then you need to get fitted. The reason there are multiple hooks, is so that when your bra gets older and starts to stretch out, then you hook it in closer.

6. Know Your Size

Your band shouldn’t be too loose or too tight. If you notice the cups are gapping, or that you are spilling out of them, then it’s time for a fitting. Many stores have bra specialists such as Nordstorm, Dillards, and Victoria’s Secret that will gladly help you. They provide free fittings that will help you assess your size!
