Treat Yourself After Finals: Favorite Brunch Joints (on a Student Budget)

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at San Francisco chapter.

So, I don’t know about you guys, but I like food a lot–more than a reasonable person would and more than I can really afford. I enjoy going to the restaurant, but what I LOVE is my Sunday brunch. Being a student, though, brunching every other Sunday is not exactly wise, because it is not cheap. So, I decided to research the places that help us foodies balance a student budget and happy taste buds. Here’s my list of great brunch places that aren’t too dangerous for your wallet, so you can treat yourself after a stressful finals week. Enjoy!

1- La Boulange, 1000 Cole St.

I know everyone knows La Boulange, but I had to mention it. Although a lot of people don’t seem to consider it a brunch joint, it is one of my favorite places to go. I chose the one on Cole because the neighborhood always gives me this great vacation vibe. Their croissants actually taste like French croissants and reminds me of home; that’s really all I need to get me going on a Sunday morning: a crunchy croissant and a fresh orange juice. They have plenty of options too, but I suggest that you go for a full plate instead of several sides of different things. I did that once and it got more expensive than expected.

2- Red Café, 2894 Mission St.

With only one dollar sign on Yelp, the breakfast/brunch there is delicious, and you can get a breakfast special with a side of plantains or hash brown, pancakes, coffee, hot chocolate, all for just 22 bucks. At peak times expect a line, but it sure is worth the wait.

3- Brenda’s French Soul Food, 652 Polk St.

If you like Soul Food, this is the place for you. There are so many options that the only concern might be choosing what to order. On top of that, you get a delicious plate of eggs benedicts and a drink for less than 20 bucks.

4- Café Capriccio, 2200 Mason St.

This café is great if you’re looking for a light breakfast and you want to relax with friends or family. With a price range under 10 bucks, a $10 for $15 deal and a great sandwich/Panini menu, this café is worth the try, especially if you’re into Italian food.
