SF Fall Fashion Fest 2014

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at San Francisco chapter.

A few members of our HC team and I went to the annual Fall Fashion Fest in Union Square on Thursday, October 9, and I thought I’d do a little review of the events for those of you who would want to attend this event next year!

Fall Fashion Fest is, basically, a neighborhood-wide fashion party! Several shops around Union Square stay open late and unveil their Fall collections to local trendsetters, fashion bloggers, in-store pop-ups and trunk shows. Fashionistas can walk around with a map in hand, and check out the different events while sipping on cocktails, snacking on fancy canapés, and enjoying store-wide discounts and gifts.

The first shop we visited was Agent Provocateur, a high end lingerie shop. The boutique was absolutely stunning, with a boudoir-themed interior and velvet carpets. The pieces were also amazingly beautiful; they should be, for $250 bras! There were lots of feathers and silk, and cocktails and delicous maccarons were served to the guests.

The whole thing is only 2 hours, and there were more than 40 participating shops. Since there was no way we could see them all, we went straigth to the next event: a fashion show on the 3rd floor of Macy’s to showcase the brand new Fall collection.

The VIP after-party was held at Hawthorn cocktail lounge on Geary street, where we could enjoy an open Skinny Girl bar while mingling with the crowd. The regular tickets cost $20 while tickets for the VIP section were $60. I went to the VIP section to see what it was all about, but I can tell you now: it isn’t worth it. While everything around was beautiful and the atmosphere relaxing, the only differences with the regular section were less people around, which can be pretty boring, and “free” drinks that we really had already paid for. Unless you’re planning on drinking a lot, the $20 section is fine (it only charged $5 for a cocktail).

Overall, the Fall Fashion Fest is a great initiative from Union Square and if you are a fashionista, this is the place to be every year. It happens a few weeks after SF Fashion Week, and it’s a great opportunity for discounts in the best shops in the city! If you’re planning on attending the after parties, stick to the regular $20 tickets – the VIP tickets don’t offer anything worth $60, unless you’re looking to get super tipsy! *wink*

Bisous,

Brigitte
