Full name: Karleighann Vargas Shepard

Age: 17

Year: Freshman

Major: English Literature

Hometown: Temecula, CA

Why did you choose San Francisco State?

I chose SFSU because it had everything that I wanted and it was in San Francisco, a city that I’d always wanted to live in and it had a lot of opportunities I was looking for!

Tell us something not a lot of people know about you:

Not a lot of people know that I am considered a professional photographer!

What do you do aside from school? (e.g. Work? Hobbies?)

I love photography as well as writing, I spend a lot of my time thinking of stories as well as writing in journals to keep as “notes” for future reference. I also enjoy watching netflix, blogging, sleeping, and reading! In terms of work I walk dogs and am a photographer for AT&T Park.

What do you hope to accomplish in your field of work?

As a writer my first hope is to expand people’s empathy through my stories as well as articles and help people see things from another’s perspective and in turn, making the world a better place.

How do you stay organized with work, school, volunteering, etc.?

It’s actually incredibly difficult sometimes but I keep a planner and I try to keep my room clean at all times because a messy room = a messy mind and I don’t want that! I also list off the things that I need to do in order of importance and do them in that order.

What is your dream job or where do you see yourself 5 years from now?

My dream job is to be an editor for an amazing magazine like Vogue or the Rolling Stone because I think that what people read is important and they should get it in the best and most entertaining way possible and I admire the people that have those jobs right now because they are an inspiration. In 5 years I definitely see myself living in New York in some small studio apartment and having a job at a huge newspaper as well as being a photographer on the side.

That’s a wrap on this weeks campus celebrity! If you ever need a professional photographer make sure to give Karleigh a call ;)
