This year, Salisbury University put on the musical Cabaret. The show sold out an entire week, including opening night.
Directed by Paul. T Pfeiffer, the story follows Clifford Bradshaw, Sally Bowles and the members of the Kit Kat club as they experience life in pre WWII Germany. The musical is riveting with amazing costumes, a stunning set, and electrifying music.
The musical discusses the underground clubs in Germany and ideas of gender and sexuality in our society. These ideas are tested through the use of costume and on stage explicit sexual scenes. Characters of both genders experiment with clothing choices in and they way they present themselves throughout the play
However the were many themes in the play that were extremely applicable to issues in modern society. Some of which our the importance of being aware of politics and the importance of standing up for what we believe in.
Overall this tnred out to be my now favorite musical of all time. I recommend everyone see this play to challenge their own ideas of gender.
