5 Ways To Get The Grades You Want This Semester

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Salisbury chapter.

College is one of the most important times of your life. You discover who you are, make decisions that will affect the rest of your life and try your best to make a name for yourself. It is also a stage in your life that you should start, if you haven’t already to prioritize the things in your life such as academics and your health.

Both of these concepts go hand and hand because one effects the other and vice versa.

Have you ever had a cold or been ill for a long period of time and started to see it reflect badly in your work? When you are sick, most of your energy goes into strengthening your immune system so you’re typically not as efficient as you would be had your immune system been up to par.

Have you ever believed that you did really well on an assignment and then when your instructor hands it back, you find out you didn’t do so great on it as you had originally thought? Have you ever gotten sick because of it? When something happens unexpectedly that we are unhappy with, we process and cope with this information in many different ways.

We can feel confused, guilty or just get physically sick because of it. In order to avoid your illness from affecting your work ethic and getting sick because of a bad grade, there are five ways to ensure that you get better grades this semester.

1. Get Sleep

Make sure you are getting enough sleep every night. Put those restless nights in the past because they weren’t helping your grades. You need your sleep in order to give your body and brain time to rest. When you get enough sleep, you wake up refreshed and ready for the next day. Another factor that will help you is getting breakfast in the morning. This will supply you with enough energy to last you through the day.

2. Don’t Procrastinate

Setting aside time to complete your assignments early will defeat the procrastination you are currently facing. It is more difficult to beat it when you don’t make time in your schedule to do assignments. Considering the assignments time sensitive deadline or lack thereof will also help.

3. Extra Credit

Make sure you are taking advantage of whatever extra credit the professor offers because you don’t want to be in a position at the end of the semester where you need it. Take advantage of the opportunities that the professor offers now. This will build you in some percentage points just in case you don’t do as well on an assignment as you think.

4. Make Better Decisions

Maybe your habit is going out to parties on college weekends. Instead of going out on the weekends, try to stay in your room and complete any extra work that you have to do. Maybe you spend time engaging unproductive activities. To escape that cycle, prioritize your life. Think of what is important and complete things with the deadline in mind.

5. Utilize an Agenda

Keeping an agenda will make you more organized. If you keep track of all the assignments you need to complete, you will be more aware of how much time you need to set aside to finish the assignments. Also, it gives you a broader view of how many events that you have or even putting possible campus events you want to attend will keep you updated on into campus life.
