After four years of writing for Her Campus Saint Mary’s, I’m finally a Campus Correspondent, along with the fabulous Allie Royce! I’m so excited to lead our Her Campus chapter this year, and I can’t wait to see all the great content our writers come up with. That said, Her Campus Saint Mary’s is always looking for new writers to join our team! If you’ve been on the fence about whether or not to join Her Campus, I’m here to tell you all the reasons you should.
It looks good on a resume.
Everytime I go into a job interview, the interviewer knows what Her Campus is, and they are impressed. It’s a national brand known for being one of the first to integrate the idea of college writers writing for their campus specifically. It’s a way to put a national organization on your resume and build a portfolio of published, professional pieces to show to future employers. And no matter what industry you’re in, writing skills, from emails to company reports, are necessary.
It’s a low time commitment.
Though we look to publish about 6 articles a week, Her Campus SMC is totally chill. Most girls write about 1-2 articles a month, although the number you write is completely up to you. Articles have no word minimum, so if you only have time for a few paragraphs, no big deal! And if you can’t think of something to write, Allie and I are here to help you brainstorm and come up with more to say.
Free stuff!
Yes, FREE stuff! And I’m not talking junkie stuff, I’m talking good stuff. This year, every time somebody submits an article, they will be entered to win a Starbucks gift card, which we will give away before fall break. The more you submit, the more entries you receive. And we occasionally receive care packages from the HC national team that are filled with top quality make up, snacks (Luna bars, even!), books (I got my hardcover copy of Everything, Everything from HC!), coupons (free burrito at Chipotle!) and even accessories from brands like Vera Bradley. Allie and I will be giving all the goodies to our most dedicated writers.

Teamwork isn’t just a skill employers are looking for- it’s a great way to bond and meet fellow belles! We’re excited for our writing team to grow close and enjoy time together this semester.
