7 Ways Your Girlfriends Keep You Sane

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Saint Mary's chapter.

Every girl group is different. Whether you have a couple close girlfriends or a group of 10 girls, having girls that you can go to with anything basically can save you from going crazy in school. These 7 reasons sum up why having your go-to girls is so important and why they make your life so much better.

  1. VENTING

Although we all wish we were perfect human beings that never have any problems, that is probably unlikely to happen because we all have a little bit of crazy in us. If you are anything like me, getting caught up with stress and other personal issues is inevitable, but nothing is better than coming back to your room and having your bestie there to vent to. Having a friend with no judgement as you rant about how someone made you mad is the most relaxing thing ever because you can be your total crazy self and they will not love you any less.

2. Laughing with your GF is scientifically proven to make you happier.

Having a group of friends with so many different personalities and so much craziness has made my life so much better. When we all hang out in a group, we are bound to laugh till our stomach hurts or until Lainey cries tears of joy! Reveling in the little moments of being together and laughing has made my hard days so much better.

3. They compliment your outfit when you they know you need it

Girls will always be girls and we will change their outfit a thousand times before going out to try to look perfect. But even if you do not feel your prettiest, girlfriends will always be the first to shower you with compliments. They see what you really look like and remind you not to overthink what you wear!

4. You have multiple closets (!!!)

One of the greatest things about having a group of close girl friends is the endless clothes sharing! I can’t bring everything I own to college and sometimes get bored of my own clothes. But when I put all 10 of my friends’ closets together, the clothing options are basically endless! Although you should always ask, our motto is mi closet et tu closet!!!!

5. Girlfriends=drinking wine with each other

The title describes it all. Having your girls to crack open a bottle of wine and watch the bachelor with and gossip about the girls on the show is true happiness. Unwinding and taking your mind off everything else going on with school helps with your sanity for sure.

6. Breakup Army

As Carrie Bradshaw once said, “Maybe girlfriends are our soulmates and maybe guys are just people to have fun with.” Whether you believe that quote or not, having go-to girlfriends that lift you up during your hardest times is essential. Boys will come and go, but having your girlfriends be consistent is a necessity for a balanced life! Getting through any breakup alone is that much harder, and having that shoulder to cry on helps in every way.

7. There is no such thing as too much love

No matter how big or small your friend group is, expanding your friend base and maintaining genuine relationships can never be too much. Everything in life needs balance, but having as many close friends that bring you so much joy is never a bad thing. Friendships come at different levels, but in my experience with my besties, it is essential to always put effort into your friendships and always always ALWAYS, love them as much as you possibly can.

Saint Mary’s gives a unique opportunity to form life long relationships with so many girls and I am so thankful  to have a lot of amazing girls in my life lift me up to be a better version of myself. True women lift each other up, and nothing is better than having my group that does that for me everyday!! #gobelles

Living this life through the words of our Savior. I am a firm believer in lifting other people up will help to change the world. My love for coffee shops and acai bowls tends to be obsessive. People I love, know that I am always up for an adventure. I live for the moments that I cannot put into words. My mission: to be so busy loving my life that I do not have time for fear, judgement, or regret.
