3 Ways to Save Your Skin This Winter

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Saint Mary's chapter.

We have just entered the month of February and I think we can all agree this winter is becoming more and more exhausting. By now we have lost the majority, if not all of our summer tans. At this point, our skin is in need of some MAJOR need for some TLC.

Who says you can’t have healthy, glowing skin in the middle of a Midwest winter. Here are a few beauty products to keep your skin on the A list without breaking the bank!!

Facial Sprays

If you are someone who has never used any type of facial spray, you need to start because they are honestly game changers. Facial sprays are like little miracles in a bottle. These light mists are mainly water based and have a bunch of minerals to keep your skin hydrated and healthy. Not only do these help with dry skin but they’re perfect for the summer or any spring break destinations you are thinking of traveling to. What makes setting spray perfect for warmer climates is that they have a cooling effect. So when sprayed, you are not only hydrating your skin but also receive a refreshing feeling after using them. It’s a win-win!!

Where can you get your hands on such a product? Well, they can be found at places like Sephora, Ulta, Nordstrom, and the list goings one.

Some popular facial sprays include Evian facial Sprays, Dermalogica, Mario Badescu, etc.

Masks. Masks. Masks.

It is no secret the masks trend is taking over the beauty and skincare world. No matter what skin type or skin problem you want to assess… have no fear, they have a mask for that. The latest beauty craze, sheet masks, originated in Asia and has taken the U.S. by storm. Not only are these super hydrating but there are so many types, it is near to impossible to find one that doesn’t suit your skincare needs. To be honest, the first time you put one of these bad boys on you might freak yourself out because you like a mummy but it is totally worth it. Regardless of how you look with these fun sheet masks you, your skin will thank you!

Popular sheet masks: Tony Moly, Yes To, When, etc.

Body Scrubs

Let’s be honest. Dry skin is not fun not matter what season it is. By adding one little step to your shower routine, you are guaranteed to have smoother and soft skin this winter. Body scrubs are extremely helpful for exfoliating the skin and removing any dead skin cells. I know it sounds gross but you’ll thank us later! Often times, the dry skin we see is really dead skin cells that just need to be cleared. By rubbing a body scrub into your skin, you are allowing for new skin cells to surface faster for healthier looking skin. However, with any good exfoliation, there should be a great moisturizer that follows. Be sure not to abuse these scrubs, there are some that are less abrasive that can be used daily and others that should only be used 3-4 times per week (check the labels just to make sure).

Popular scrubs include St. Ives, The Body Shop, Soap & Glory, etc.

Hopefully, you found these tips helpful and can make it through this winter with the beautiful, healthy skin you deserve!!
